imageAfter his study at the Art Academy in Rotterdam Bo Woody Winter was at the cradle of the house scene that started in 1987. He organized small parties among friends and free minded folks.

The parties became a success not in the least by the colorful artwork Bo made to dress up the parties,

He was invited to decorate the bigger dance clubs that were opened in the early nineties.
Bo moved to Spain to combine his love for music with his love for painting. He opened a jazz club and started painting series of jazz portraits, next to commissioned work he made for collectors.

John ColtraneIn 2011 he was asked to be artist in resident at the famous North Sea Jazz Festival. He returned to Holland late 2012 to set up Close Up Art as a way to focus on subjects he wanted to paint.

In his music paintings ‘synesthesia’ plays an important role. A layer of forms, representing the typical sound of a musician, is covering the portrait of the depicted musician, thus creating the typical Bo Woody Winter paintings.

Bo Woody Winter’s love for music

Bo Woody Winter:

“Music has been a passion for over three decades now. I get dazzled by the timeless improvisations of John Coltrane, the timing of Ahmad Jamal, the personality of Miles, I get inspired by the intensity of the great jazz performers. So I tried to put their music in my paintings. But also the craftmanship of the best DJ’s and producers drive me to translate  magic into lasting images. In the nineties I already decorated dance parties and clubs. That was the reason to start the DJ Icon Series. I want to connect my images to the music and therefor developed the Close Up Art projects. Connecting, and merging different forms of art must lead to new experiences.”
